Jared Monti’s Medal of Honor (PHOTOS)

October 31, 2009

President Barack Obama presents the Medal of Honor to the parents of Jared Monti, who died trying to save his fellow soldiers during a firefight in Afghanistan. My photo from the White House ceremony (which required some serious acrobatics to get) made the front page of Stripes. (Click on image to read story)

Here are some additional images from the ceremony:

A rare shot where the president has his eyes open. I'd also like to add that the East Room of the White House is very difficult to shoot in, because they have you shooting into a yellow, shiny background. Awful.

Sen. Kerry looks at the men who served with Jared Monti as they are asked to stand during the ceremony. Monti was from Kerry's home state of Massachusetts.

Paul Monti acknowledges members of the 10th Mountain Division who served with his late son.

I always wonder what the mother is thinking in this photo. How sad that so many mothers have had to lose their children in these wars.
